Women's Basketball Falls to Golden Lions 84-59

Oakdale, NY - Freshman Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) scored a team high 15 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in the Clippers 84-59 loss to the Golden Lions of Dowling College last night at St. Johns Eastern Long Island Campus in Oakdale, NY. The loss drops the Clippers to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the East Coast Conference.

Eggink shot 6-11 (55%) from the floor and is tied for third in scoring for the Clippers with 6.4 points per game. Sophomore Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) added 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals for Concordia. Junior Shari Cordero (Bronx, NY) scored 8 points and had 8 rebounds, 5 of which were on the offensive end. Sophomore Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds and freshman Bonnie DeFinna (Maspeth, NY) had 8 points in just 14 minutes of action.

For the Golden Lions, Nikkeia Daniels had a game high 22 points and 7 rebounds. Mirna Araujo had 16 points and 4 rebounds, Molly Turbridy had 13 points and 6 rebounds and Michelle Yawn added 11 points and a game high 14 assists for Dowling College. Araujo, Turbridy and Yawn shot a collective 17-24 (71%) from the floor for the game. As a team, the Golden Lions shot 34-66 (51.5%), which is the highest a team has shot against the Clipper defense this season. Dowling improves to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the East Coast Conference.

Daniels hit a jumper to give Dowling their biggest lead of the first half, 27-9 with 06:07 left to play. The Clippers would go on a 15-8 scoring run, with Cordero scoring 7 of her 8 points, to cut the deficit to 11 points at 35-24. Both teams would trade a couple of baskets and the Clippers went into the locker room trailing 39-28 at the half.

In the second half, Rommel nailed a 3-pointer to cut the Dowling lead to 48-36 with 15:30 left in the game. The Golden Lions would respond by outscoring the Clippers 15-3 over the next seven minutes to take a commanding 63-39 advantage with 08:08 left to play. The Clippers would get as close as 16 points on a 3-pointer by sophomore Jocelyn Martin (Nesconset, NY) with 04:44 remaining. But the Dowling offense proved to be too much down the stretch, outscoring Concordia 15-6 the rest of the way.

Concordia will bring in the New Year on Saturday, January 5th, as they travel to Brookville, NY to face the C.W. Post Pioneers in ECC action. The game will start at 1:30 PM.
