Bears Top Clippers 86-64

Old Westbury, NY - Sophomore Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) scored a season high 19 points and tied a season high with 8 rebounds in a losing effort as the Clippers fell to the Bears of the New York Institute of Technology 86-64 last night in Old Westbury, NY. Rommel also shot a season high 60% (9-15) from the floor in the game. Senior Danielle Bacon (Levittown, NY) matched her season high with 11 points on 67% (4-6) shooting form the floor. Bacon was a perfect 3-3 from 3-point range and finished with 3 assists. Sophomore Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island, NY) scored 10 points and pulled down 2 rebounds and Shari Cordero (Bronx, NY) had 9 points and 4 rebounds. Freshman Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) had a season high 5 blocks. The Clippers fall to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the East Coast Conference.

For the Bears, Freda Elston finished the game with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Emily Bolling added 21 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Both Elston and Bolling combined to shoot 18-31 (58%) from the floor. Madison Robertson finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds and Sarah Vivonetto contributed 15 points and 5 rebounds for the Bears. NYIT improves to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the East Coast Conference.

The Clippers jumped out to an early 7-5 lead over NYIT, with Rommel scoring the first 5 points for Concordia. YNIT would then take command, using a 16-4 scoring run to lead 21-11 with 11:28 remaining in the first half. Both teams traded baskets over the next few minutes. Robertson nailed a jumper to give NYIT a 28-17 lead with just over 8 minutes left. A basket by Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY), who finished with 7 points, and consecutive 3-pointers by Bacon and McLaughlin cut the Clippers deficit to 28-25 with 07:12 to go. The Bears outscored Concordia 18-8 in the final minutes of the first half to lead 46-33 at intermission.

In the second half, the Clippers scored the first 6 points to cut the Bears lead to 46-39. McLaughlin scored 4 of her 10 points in that stretch. The Clippers then went cold, missing their next 7 shots from the floor and the Bears outscored Concordia 16-0 to take a commanding 62-39 lead with 13:34 left in the game. The Clippers would twice cut the lead to 16 points, however, that was the closest they would get as NYIT controlled the score board throughout the rest of the game.

The Clippers will be back in action on Monday, January 14th, as they return to the Meyer Athletic Center to take on the Lions of Molloy College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
