Clippers End Season With Loss to New Haven

Bronxville, NY - Despite a season high 25 points from freshman Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island, NY), the Clippers were defeated in their season finale 115-71 by the Chargers of the University of New Haven today at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. McLaughlin's previous high was a 22 point effort against Felician College back on November 21st. Freshman Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Rommel scored all of her points in the first half. Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) notched her second consecutive double-double, scoring 12 points on a perfect 10 for 10 at the free throw line and dishing out 11 assists. Binnie's 12 points are a season high and her 11 assists ties a season high. The freshman point guard also had 3 steals and pulled down 6 rebounds. Freshman Gianna Zonghetti (Garrison, NY) scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds and Jennifer Osher (White Plains, NY) chipped in 8 points. The Clippers had their best 3-point shooting performance of the season, hitting 11 for 19 (57.9%) shots. McLaughlin (7 for 10), Osher (2 for 3) and Rommel (2 for 3) led the charge from long distance. Senior Emily Rodriguez (Bronx, NY) finished with 2 points, 2 assists, a steal and a rebound.

 

 

For New Haven, Jennifer Shoemaker and Ashley Hilton each finished with 18 points. Tristan Jackson scored 16 points and Alanna Zahora added 15 points. Alysia Saunders finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing a game high 14 rebounds. Keri-Anne Jetter chipped in 10 points. The Chargers dominated the boards with a 53-25 rebounding margin, 25 of which were on the offensive end.

The loss drops the Clippers record to 1-26 overall and 1-19 in the East Coast Conference. The Chargers, who will be the top seed in the upcoming East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, improve to 22-5 overall and 17-3 in the East Coast Conference.
