Clippers Break into Win Column With 76-72 Victory
Flushing, NY - Freshman Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) scored a season high 23 points on 8 for 14 (57%) shooting, as the Clippers defeated the Queens College Knights 76-72 in Flushing, NY. Rommel also pulled down 9 rebounds and was 75% (3 for 4) from 3-point range and 4 for 5 (80%) from the free throw line. Guard Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) recorded her first double-double, as the freshman scored 10 points and handed out 10 assists. Junior Danielle Bacon (Levittown, NY) added 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals for the Clippers. This was the third straight game that Bacon reached the double-digit mark. Sophomore Jennifer Osher (White Plains, NY) chipped in a season high 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
The Clippers had one of their better shooting performances of the season, hitting 24 of 63 (38%) shots from the floor, including 7 for 16 (44%) from 3-point range. From the free throw line, Concordia went 21 for 26 (81%) for the game, third best free throw percentage this season. The Clipper defense held the Knights to 25 for 70 (36%) shooting for the game.
For Queens College, Bethanie Mandresh finished with 22 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Jessica Sanchez scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Danielle Castelli recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
With their initial win, the Clippers move to 1-25 overall and 1-18 in the East Coast Conference. The Knights fall to 6-19 overall and 4-14 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will conclude the 2006-2007 season on Saturday,
February 24th, as the Clippers host the Chargers of the University
of New Haven. These two teams last met on January 25th in West
Haven, CT with the Chargers handing Concordia a 94-56 loss. Binnie
scored a team high 11 points for the Clippers. Bacon and freshman
Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island,
NY) each chipped in 9 points. Alanna Zahora scored a game
high 19 points for New Haven and Tristan Jackson added 18 points.
It will be Senior Day at the Meyer Athletic Center, as senior
Emily Rodriguez (Bronx, NY) will be
playing her final game for Concordia College. The action begins at
1:00 PM.
