WATERBURY, Conn. – The Concordia College softball team visited Post University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Clippers were upended by the Eagles, 7-1 and 9-3, as Concordia has dropped their last four games in a row.
The Clippers would have last at-bats in both games as in the first game Post would score a lone run in the first inning and four more in the second to lead 5-0. In the bottom of the second inning, junior Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) would record a one-out triple to right field and came home to score off a RBI from junior Allison Beltz (Whitehall, Pa.). The Eagles managed to add lone runs in the fourth and sixth innings as Concordia was held to only five hits as Post took the 7-1 win. Senior Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) pitched the complete game for the Clippers as she allowed one earned run on seven hits while striking out a career-high nine batters in the loss.
Game two saw the Eagles score three runs in their first at-bats to lead 3-0. Post would add a lone run in the top of the third as Concordia would cut into the deficit in the home half of the inning. Sophomore Shayla Peterson (Bethlehem, Pa.) would hit a bunt single with two on and no out as junior Audrey Gardus (Carbondale, Pa.) scored on an error. Two batters later Beltz hit a two-RBI double to left field as Peterson and Ross scored to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Clippers were unable to score any more runs in the game as the Eagles added two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to take the 9-3 victory. Peterson was tagged with the loss as she allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits while striking out two batters.
Concordia (4-8, 2-4 CACC) is scheduled to host Felician University on Sunday afternoon at Clipper Softball Field.
