BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers softball team earned a sweep of visiting Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Concordia would take a 4-1 win in the first game and then followed with a 9-1 victory in five innings during the second game at Clipper Softball Field.
Game one began with the Clippers scoring their first run during their first at-bats. Junior Victoria Vickerman (Clinton, Conn.) would record a sacrifice fly to allow senior Alexandra Mandarano (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to score on the play. Concordia would add three more runs in the third inning as Vickerman and junior Hannah Rubasky (Nanticoke, Pa.) both recorded RBI's while freshman Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) scored off an error. The Warriors managed to score a lone run in the seventh inning as the Clippers held on for the 4-1 victory.
Rubasky earned the win for Concordia after pitching 6.0 innings as she allowed only three hits while striking out a season-high six batters. Junior Caitlyn Callas (Wallkill, N.Y.) pitched the final inning, allowing a run and striking out two batters.
In the second game Nyack would begin with a lone runs as the Clippers responded with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning. Vickerman would provide two more RBI's on the afternoon to give Concordia the early advantage. In the bottom of the third, the Clippers would add on two more runs with sophomore Kelsey Sarafinko (Clarks Summit, Pa.) and Mandarano recording RBI's.
Concordia would use a five-run fifth inning to open up an eight run lead. Vickerman drove in two RBI's to give her six total on the afternoon while junior Alexa Lavalle (Oxford, N.J.), sophomore Carly Mertens (Freeport, N.Y.), and junior Kayla Luken (Beaverton, Ore.) all recorded RBI's in the inning. Luken's sacrifice fly would give the Clippers the 9-1 lead as Concordia won with the Mercy Rule in effect.
Ross earned the victory for the Clippers in the complete game as she allowed one run on two hits while striking out three batters.
