Clippers split with Devils
The Lady Clippers softball team hosted the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Devils in a CACC double header earlier this afternoon. With the Clippers looking to keep their home win streak alive they called Alexa Rosella to the mound.
Rosella started off strong as she went three up and three down in the first inning with two strike outs.
The Clippers threatened to score in the bottom of the inning but could not capitalize on their hits.
The Devils came back in the top of the second and added a few hits of their own to try and score but Rosella and the rest of the Clippers were on point on the defensive side of the game and kept them away.
Each team earned their chances through the next few innings but neither could find a way to score and so the game went into extra innings.
With the score still tied at zero after the eighth inning the international tiebreaking rule was in effect. The rule states that the last person that was out in the previous inning was to be placed on second base and then the game would resume as usual until one team was ahead at the end of the inning.
The top of the ninth the Devils struck and struck they did as they scored four runs including a three run home run.
The Clippers would have their shot in the bottom of the inning
as Jaime Lorenzo was placed
on second with Alexa Rosella at the plate to start their half of
an inning. A double from Rosella scored Lorenzo and the
Clippers were finally on the board. Rosella moved to third on
a single from Victoria Pisciotta and the Clippers had runners on
the corners. A one out walk from Angela D'Amico loaded the
bases up for the Clippers. With the bases loaded the Devils
pitcher dug deep and struck out the last two batter for the
Clippers to fall in nine innings 1-4.
Theresa Magnani took the mound for game two for the Clippers and started well retiring the side wtih groundouts.
The Clippers headed to bat and with two outs Jaime Lorenzo stepped to the plate. After receiving four balls, Lorenzo headed to first. Alexa Rosella knocked a double and Lorenzo scored with ease and the Clippers took their first lead of the day.
The bottom of the third saw one more run come in for the Clippers as Dena Frederick led off with a one out single. Frederick then moved up to second as a wild pitch was thrown by the Devils pitcher. Jaime Lorenzo came up to bat and hit a single to score Frederick and the Clippers were up 2-0.
Theresa Magnani continued to pitch well inning after inning as she and the rest of the Clippers let no runner past second base. With Magnani pitching well the Clippers took game two over the Devils 2-0.
Kristina Patrocinio led the Clippers hitting 3 for 6. Jaime
Lorenzo hit 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Alexa
Rosella his 2 for 7 with 2 RBI's and Victoria Pisciotta hit 2 for 6
for the day.
The Clippers will head to Wilmington University to face the Wildcats on Tuesday, April 13th.
