Clippers take down Griffins in double header
The Clippers hosted the Chestnut Hill College Griffins today in
a make-up double header that
was postponed from yesterday. Alexa Rosella was handed the
ball in the first game for the Clippers.
The Griffins got a couple of runners on the bases but the Clippers defense allowed them to not cross home.
Maria DeMartino led the Clippers first inning off as she hit a single to second. A triple from Jaime Lorenzo to right center field allowed DeMartino to score and the Clippers were the first on the board. A ground out from Alexa Rosella scored Lorenzo and the Clippers were up after one 2-0.
The Griffins continued to threaten with the occasional runner but did not get a run until the top of the third to cut the Clippers lead in half.
The Clippers answered back in a big way as Dena Frederick started the bottom of the third with a single to center field. Maria DeMartino then ripped a single through the left side of the defense for the Clippers to have two runners on. A bunt single by Jaime Lorenzo continued the Clippers hitting and Frederick was able to score as an error was caused during the play. Alexa Rosella loaded the bases up with a walk. A single to dead center field by Victoria Pisciotta scored DeMartino and Lorenzo and the Clippers were up 5-1.
Kristina Patrocinio bunted a single toward third base and was
safely aboard for the Clippers in the bottom of the fifth.
After a stolen base by Patrocinio before a pitch was thrown to Dena
Frederick put a runners in scoring position. With a single up
the middle by Frederick the Clippers had runners on the
corners. Maria DeMartino hit a sacrifice fly to left field to
score Patrocinio and the Clippers continued their scoring.
Jaime Lorenzo then hit a one out single up the middle to score
Frederick. A two out single to left field by Victoria Pisciotta put
runners once again on the corner. A single to centerfield
from Angela D'Amico scored both Lorenzo and Pisciotta and the
Clippers were up 9-1.
The Griffins loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but with two straight strike outs by Alexa Rosella and then a fly ball to left field the Clippers ended the game.
Dena Frederick kicked off the second game with a single up the middle in the bottom of the first. A double to left field by Maria DeMartino scored Frederick and the Clippers picked up where they left off from the first game. Jaime Lorenzo was walked aboard and Alexa Rosella then hit a single through the right side to score DeMartino and Lorenzo. Angela D'Amico then hit a shot to deep center field for a triple to score Rosella. D'Amico scored off of a one out double to left center by Nicole Spadero. A single to left field by Kristina Patrocinio socred Spadero and the Clippers led at the end of the first 6-0.
The Griffins got one run off of second game Clippers pitcher Theresa Magnani. Though the Griffins threatened with the occasional runner the Clippers defense shut them down.
Kristina Patrocinio led the Clippers fourth inning off as she reached first on an error by the pitcher. A single to right field by Dena Frederick continued the Clippers hitting. Another triple from Jaime Lorenzo, this time to right center field, scored both Patrocinio and Frederick to move the Clippers to 8-1 over the Griffins.

he Clippers just one run away from ending the game early would have
to wait until the bottom of the sixth inning after Kristina
Patrocinio was walked aboard. After Frederick was walked
Maria DeMartino hit a ball to left field to cause an error and
Patrocinio scored to end the game for the Clippers.
Jaime Lorenzo hit 4 for 6 with 4 runs scored and 5 RBI's for the day. Angela D'Amico hit 3 for 6 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI's. Alexa Rosella pitched a complete five inning game as she struck out seven while Theresa Magnani pitched a complete six inning game with striking out 10.
The Clippers will head to Bloomfield College tomorrow for a CACC double header.
