Clippers go toe to toe with Wildcats and come away with two wins
The Clippers headed to Wilmington University today for their last regular season games. Alexa Rosella took the mound for the first game and only let one person on base through the first two innings.
In the top of the third the Clippers struck as Nicole Spadero led
the inning off with a one out single to right field. Dena
Frederick was then walked aboard and Spadero was put into scoring
position. As a single through the left side was hit by Maria
DeMartino, Spadero crossed the plate and the Clippers went on the
board first.
The Clippers then hit some struggles at the plate as they were unable to get anyone around.
Alexa Rosella finished out the game on the mound and was successful as she and the Clippers defense let none of the Wildcats get around the bases. The Clippers captured the game 1-0.
Game two the Wildcats came out swinging as they threatened to score off the arm of Jillian Maselli. With the Wildcats threatened on their offensive side the Clippers were stuggling though Jaime Lorenzo was close to scoring after hitting a triple to right center in the top of the first.
With the score still at zero each team continued to play defense well to shut down the other.
The top of the seventh came along and with the game still
scoreless the Clippers looked to score. A single to left
field by Jaime Lorenzo to start the inning off. A double to
left center field by Alexa Rosella scored Lorenzo and the Clippers
took a 1-0 lead.
That one run was all it took in the second game as the Clippers shut the Wildcats down after they put two runners into scoring position.
The Clippers finished out the regular season 20-15 overall and 17-9 in the CACC. The Clippers will head off to Georgian Court University next weekend for the CACC playoffs.
