Softball just misses in double header with Holy Family

The Clippers traveled to Bristol, PA to face off against the Holy Family University Tigers.  The game was originally was scheduled as a home game for the Clippers but with recent rains the field was unplayable. 

The Clippers headed into battle and found themselves with their heads in the Tigers mouth.  The Clippers went down in the first two innings as the Tigers struck them out in order.  The Tigers on the other hand also struggled in the first two innings as the Clippers put Alexa Rosella on the mound.  Rosella only allowed one person on base in the first two innings of play. 

Maria DeMartino led off the top of the third for the Clippers as she was walked aboard.  As Jenna Stueber was at the plate DeMartino stole second and put a runner in scoring position for the Clippers.  Unfortunately the Tigers pitcher was dominate and struck out the next three Clippers batters to move on. 

The Tigers got a hit in the bottom of the third off of Rosella and then moved the runner into scoring position.  With a sacrifice fly the Tigers scored first in the game and was up 1-0 over the Clippers. 

The Clippers continued to struggle at the plate against the Tigers dominating pitcher.  The Clippers eventually got three hits on three different innings but were unable to have anyone cross the plate and the Tigers stole game one 1-0.

Game two started up and the Clippers continued their struggles at the plate.  Theresa Magnani was called to the mound to pitch game two for the Clippers.  Magnani got the first batter out with a ground ball to Jaime Lorenzo.  The Tigers then got two batters on base before a home run was hit.  The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning to take the lead. 

The Clippers bats started hitting as Victoria Pisciotta hit a single into left field.  A stolen base later and the Clippers had a runner in scoring position.  A single hit hard to right field by Angela D'Amico put the Clippers on first and third.  An unfortunate strike out and the inning was over for the Clippers. 

Theresa Magnani went back to work on the mound for the Clippers and showed her dominance through the rest of the game.  With only allowing two more hits after the first inning the Clippers were able to hold the Tigers to just three runs.

The bats for the Clippers slowed until the top of the fifth inning as Theresa Magnani hit a single down the left side.  Two batters later Jenna Stueber stepped up to the plate and nailed a home run over the center field fence and the Clippers were finally on the board and cut the Tiger's lead to just one run.  The Clippers got two more hits in the sixth and seventh but were unable to have them score and the Tigers stole the second game 3-2. 

Game one pitcher Alexa Rosella and game two pitcher Theresa Magnani each went a complete game and striking out 7 batters each with no earned runs for either of them.

Jenna Stueber went 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI's.  Theresa Magnani backed up her pitching as she went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored.  Alexa Rosella went 2 for 6 for the day including a double. 

The Clippers will next face off at Nyack College on Tuesday, March 30th.
