Clippers split day one of CACC Tournament
The Clippers faced two opponents in today's first day of the CACC Softball Tournament. The Clipper first opponent was host school the Georgian Court University Lions.
The Clippers, the number six seed in the tournament, faced the
number three seed Lions earlier in the year in a double header in
which they fell in both. The Clippers started off game one
with a couple of hits but they were unable to capitalize in the
first couple of innings.
The Lions were able to round the bases in the second and third innings as they went up on the Clippers 4-0.
The Clippers answered back in the top of the fourth as Angela
D'Amico started the inning off with a home run to center
field. Nicole Spadaro reached first after being walked with
one out. A two out double to left field by Dena Frederick
scored Spadaro for the Clippers to cut the
Lions lead in half.
Two innings later the Clippers were at it again as Angela D'Amico led the innings off with a single to left field. D'Amico moved up to second off of a wild pitch and was followed up as Theresa Magnani was walked aboard. Kristina Patrocinio hit into a fielder's choice for the Clippers to put runners on the corners. Dena Frederick then came to the plate and ripped another double to left field this time to score D'Amico and Patrocinio and the Clippers tied the game up. With a single to centerfield by Maria DeMartino Frederick crossed home plate the Clippers took the lead.
Relief pitcher Theresa Magnani came in to pitch the last two innings and grabbed herself a save with Alexa Rosella grabbing the win as the Clippers took the game 5-4 and headed to face off against #2 seed Caldwell College.
After a couple hours of break the Clippers headed back onto the field to face their second game of the day as they faced off against Caldwell College,the #2 seed in the tournament.
The Clippers struggled to hit against the Caldwell Cougars as
only Jaime Lorenzo hit a single
The Cougars scored three in the first inning and kept hitting through the entire game.
The Clippers grabbed three more hits in the game but were unable to get anyone around the bases to score.
The Clippers dropped the game against the Cougars 0-4.
The Clippers will face the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia tomorrow at 12:00pm where the winner will advance and the loser will return home.
