Brookhaven, NY - The Concordia College softball team was swept by the Golden Lions of Dowling College 3-2 and 2-0 yesterday in an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven, NY.

Dowling took the lead in the first game in the 3rd inning when Jessica Rogue scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded. Jackie Hannah hit a sac fly to center field to score the second run of the inning. Kristina DeMeo stepped up to the plate and doubled down the left field line with a runner on third base to increase the score to 3-0.

In the 5th inning, sophomore Jaime Lorenzo (Eastchester, NY) hit a triple to right field that scored freshman Ashley Corriss (Sayville, NY) from first base to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The 6th inning saw the Clippers load the bases with 3 consecutive singles. The fourth batter of the inning, sophomore Dena Frederick (White Plains, NY) would also single to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, that would be as close as the Clippers would get as they went down in order from that point to end the threat of any additional runs.

Sophomore Alexa Rosella (Howard Beach, NY) pitched 6 innings for the Clippers and allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs with 5 strikeouts. Rosella falls to 5-3 on the season.

In game two, the Golden Lions opened the 4th inning with back-to-back walks. DeMeo then singled to left field and the game's only two runs scored on an error by the left fielder.

The Clippers were held to 5 hits in the contest. Lorenzo collected two hits and Corriss, Rosella and freshman Angela D'Amico (Old Bridge, NJ) each finished with a hit.

Sophomore Jillian Maselli (Bellmore, NY) picked-up the loss for the Clippers in the second game, lasting 6 innings and surrendering 5 hits and no earned runs. Maselli falls to 2-5 on the year.

The Clippers fall to 9-13 overall and 2-8 in the East Coast Conference. Dowling improves to 24-14 on the season and 8-1 in conference play.

The Clippers will host the Bears of the New York Institute of Technology on Friday, April 17th at Clipper Softball Field. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 3:00 PM.
