Softball Falls to Pioneers

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to the Pioneers of C.W. Post 2-1 and 6-0 today at Clipper Softball Field in Bronxville, NY. Concordia has dropped 6 straight games and fall to 6-10 overall and 0-6 in the East Coast Conference. The Pioneers improve to 13-9 on the year and 5-1 in conference play.

The Clippers opened the scoring in game one when sophomore Alexa Rosella (Howard Beach, NY) hit a single in the bottom of the 1st inning with a runner on first base to put the Clippers ahead 1-0.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Pioneers would get runners on second and third base. Melissa Medina stepped up and singled through the Concordia left side of the infield to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later, Kerry Fisher singled to left field for the game winning run.

Rosella pitched a complete game for the Clippers, allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. Rosella falls to 3-3 on the season. Christina Berardi picks up the win for C.W. Post with 6 hits allowed and an earned run. Berardi also struck out 5 Clipper batters.

In the second game, Lindsey Trotto finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI. Fisher, Ashley Marchese and Christie Softy collected 2 hits apiece, while each scoring a run for the Pioneers. Senior Julie Walsh (Bellerose, NY) and freshmen Angela D'Amico (Old Bridge, NJ) and Victoria Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, NY) each collected a hit for the Clippers. Sophomore Jillian Maselli (Bellmore, NY) pitched 5.0 innings for the Clippers and gave up 10 hits and 3 earned runs. Maselli falls to 1-3 on the year. Sarah Kiser gets the win for the Pioneers, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 4 batters.

Concordia will return to action on Saturday, April 4th, as they travel to Dobbs Ferry, NY to face the Mercy College Mavericks in an ECC showdown. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
