Rockville Centre, NY - The Concordia College softball team opened up East Coast Conference action with two narrow losses to the Lions of Molloy College yesterday at Lions' Field in Rockville Centre, NY. The Clippers fell 6-5 in 8 innings in the first game and lost 8-7 in game two. Concordia falls to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the East Coast Conference. Molloy improves to 8-10 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

Concordia posted two runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings and held a 4-2 advantage after the 2nd inning. Senior Caitlin Orlando (Mineola, NY) hit a bases loaded single in the 3rd inning, scoring freshman Angela D'Amico (Old Bridge, NJ) from third base.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Michelle Walsh hit a lead-off home run to center field to cut the deficit to 5-3. Molloy would add to their run total when Meghan Karpinski singled to center field to score Carla Campagna from second base. The Lions tied the game at 5-5 when Nicole Losito scored on a wild pitch from sophomore Alexa Rosella (Howard Beach, NY).

The score remained tied at 5-5 until the bottom of the 8th inning when Walsh would advance from second base to third base on a passed ball and would score the game-winning run on the throw for a 6-5 Molloy victory. Rosella picked up the loss for the Clippers, falling to 3-2 on the season. Lauren Urbont improves to 3-4 with the win for Molloy.

In game two, the Clippers found themselves trailing 8-3 in the top of the 7th inning. With runners on first and third, sophomore Jaime Lorenzo (Eastchester, NY) drove home a run to cut the Molloy lead to 8-4. With the bases loaded, Stueber singled up the middle to score two more runs for the Clippers. With two outs, senior Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY) reached on an error by the Molloy center fielder. D'Amico scored on the play before Stueber was thrown out by the Lions' centerfielder trying to advance from second base to third base, thus ending the Concordia comeback at 8-7.
