Softball Splits Doubleheader With Bears
Old Westbury, NY - Junior Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY) had 2 doubles and drove in 3 runs in game two of a doubleheader against the Bears of NYIT yesterday in Old Westbury, NY. The win gives the Clippers their first ECC win of the season and moves them to 1-7 in the conference and 5-13 overall.
Game 1
The Bears put up three runs in the 1st inning. Brilynn Fields connected on a 2-run home run to right field to cap the scoring in the inning. The Bears would strike again in the 2nd inning on a single to right field by Lia Lara that scored Katelyn Thomas from third base to put NYIT ahead 4-0.
Concordia would respond in the 3rd inning. With the bases loaded, freshman Jaime Lorenzo (Eastchester, NY) drove in freshman Dena Frederick (White Plains, NY) from third base to cut the deficit to 4-1. That would be all the Clippers could muster, as Concordia could only manage 2 hits in the last four innings of play.

In the 6th inning, with runners on second and third, senior Radayza Montas (Bronx, NY) hit a sac fly to center field to put the Clippers ahead 3-0. Concordia would again find themselves with runners on second and third in the 7th inning. Mazza stepped to the plate and hit a bases-clearing double to center field to put the Clippers ahead 5-0. The next batter, Lorenzo, would also double to center field, scoring Mazza from second base. Orlando singled and advanced Lorenzo to third base. The Clippers would get their fourth run of the inning on a single to left field by senior Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ) to put Concordia ahead 7-0.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Bears loaded the bases for Fields, who hit a 2-out single to drive in the initial run for the Bears. The next batter, Lisa Boystak, drove in three runs by doubling to left field and cutting the deficit to 7-4. The NYIT scoring run would end there as Rebecca Stein would fly out to left field for the final out of the game.
Giralo picked-up her first win of the season and improves to 1-1. Giralo pitched 7 innings and gave up 5 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 2 batters.
