Clippers End Season With Losses to Adelphi

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College softball team ended their 2007-2008 season with a pair of losses to ECC foe Adelphi University yesterday at Clipper Softball Field in Bronxville, NY. Game scores were 3-1 and 4-0.

 

Game 1

The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Diana DiPiano singled up the middle, scoring a runner on second base. In the 2nd inning, with the bases loaded, Katie Brophy singled up the middle to drive in two runs and put the Panthers ahead 3-0.

The Clippers would get on board in the 5th inning, as junior Julie Walsh (Bellerose, NY) led off with a single to left field. Three batters later, junior Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY) reached on a throwing error by the Adelphi shortstop, scoring Walsh from first base to make the score 3-1. The Clippers would threaten again in the 7th inning with Walsh getting aboard with a 1-out double to left center field.  The next batter up flied out to advance the runner to third base. That would be where the threat would end as the final batter for the Clippers struck out to end the game. Walsh and senior Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ) each finished with 2 hits.

Freshman Jillian Maselli (Bellmore, NY) picked-up the loss for Concordia, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs. Julie Schaper gets the win for Adelphi with a 6 hit, 10 strikeout performance.

Game 2

Adelphi got a RBI, sac fly from Stephanie Byster in the 2nd inning and scored again in the 3rd inning on a wild pitch with a runner on third base to make the score 2-0.

In the 6th inning, Kristin Brennan singled to center field to score a runner on second base. Brennan would advance to third base and would reach home plate on a single by Brophy to put the Panthers ahead 4-0.

The Clippers could only muster 5 hits for the game, with freshman Dena Frederick (White Plains, NY) getting 3 of them.

Freshman Alexa Rosella (Howard Beach, NY) pitched 7 innings and allowed 13 hits and only 1 earned run in the loss. Leighann Bell threw 7 innings for Adelphi, giving up 5 hits and striking out 4 batters.

The Clippers end the 2007-2008 season with 9-21 overall record and 5-15 in the East Coast Conference.
