Softball Loses Two Against Molloy
Bronxville, NY - Freshman Jillian Maselli (Bellmore, NY) pitched her second complete game of the season, allowing just 3 earned runs and striking out a season high 6 batters in a 6-5 loss to Molloy College at Clipper Softball Field in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers have lost four straight games and fall to 4-8 overall and 0-4 in the East Coast Conference. The Lions improve to 7-9 overall and 2-0 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers were defeated 13-4 in the first game. Trailing 10-1 in the 5th inning, the Clippers got an RBI, sac fly from junior Julie Walsh (Bellerose, NY) and scored 2 more runs on an error by the Molloy shortstop. The Lions would add two three more runs in the top of the 6th inning to make the final score 13-4.
In the second game, the Clippers trailed 5-0 in the 4th inning. The Clippers would score get two runs on bases loaded walks from senior Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ) and Walsh. Singles by senior Ashley Spose (North Haven, CT) and Radayza Montas (Bronx, NY) would add two more runs and junior Kelly Moran (Fishkill, NY) hit a sac fly, as the Clippers would tie the score at 5-5.
Maselli would keep the Lions at bay in the 5th and 6th innings, allowing only 1 ht and striking out 3 batters.
In the 7th inning, Lauren Urbont hit a 1-out double and Jennifer Dwyer singled home the game-winning run for the Lions.
The Clippers would get the tying run aboard in the bottom of the 7th inning, but consecutive pop-ups would end the Clipper threat.
Concordia will be back on the field on Tuesday, April 1st, as
they travel to Brookville, NY to face the Pioneers of C.W. Post.
The Pioneers are ranked 17th in the nation in the Latest National
Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll. The first game of the
doubleheader will begin at 3:00 PM.
