Clippers Fall to Queens in Doubleheader

Old Westbury, NY - The Concordia College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Knights of Queens College yesterday in Old Westbury, NY. The Clippers lost the first game 8-2 and fell in the second game 12-4 in the East Coast Conference opener for both teams.

 

Junior Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY) hit a 2-run home run, her first of the season, in game 1.  Senior Ashley Spose (North Haven, CT) scored 2 runs and collected 3 hits with 1 RBI in game 2. Senior Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ) finished with 2 hits and 1 RBI in game 2. Junior Julie Walsh (Bellerose, NY) had a hit and a RBI and leads the Clippers with 11 hits and 7 RBI.

For the Knights, Katie Karpinski finished with 7 hits, 3 runs and 6 RBI in the two games. Nicole Mancusi combined for 5 hits and 4 RBI.

Junior Kelly Moran (Fishkill, NY) pitched 6 innings in game 1, giving up 12 hits and 6 earned runs with 1 strikeout. Moran falls to 1-2 on the season. Freshman Jillian Maselli (Bellmore, NY) picked up the loss in game 2, lasting 2.2 innings and giving up 11 hits and 8 earned runs. Maselli drops to 2-2 on the season.

With the losses, the Clippers fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the East Coast Conference. Queens improves to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia will resume action on Thursday, March 20th, as they travel to Patchogue, NY to take on Briarcliffe College in doubleheader action. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
