Softball Off to Fast Start
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College softball team is off to one of it's best starts in recent years, returning from their Spring Break Trip to Cocoa Beach, FL with a 6-2 record. Sophomore Sondra Noer (Sunnyside, NY), returning to the line-up after missing last season due to an injury, leads the Clippers offense with a .320 batting average (8 for 25). Noer has a double and 3 triples, 3 RBI and has scored 7 runs. Sophomore Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY) has also been impressive behind the plate, batting 7 for 24 (.292) with 3 doules and a triple. Mazza leads the Clippers with 7 RBI on the season. Noer and Mazza both lead Concordia in slugging percentage at .600 and .500, respectively. Sophomores Julie Walsh (Bellerose, NY) and Caitlin Orlando (Mineola, NY) each have 6 hits. Walsh also has 4 RBI.
On the mound for the Clippers, senior Julianna LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) is 2-1 with a 1.53 ERA. LaBella has given up 15 hits in 17.2 innings and has 13 strikeouts so far this season. Junior Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ) is off to a 2-0 start with a 1.26 ERA. The junior college transfer has 10 strikeouts and has given up 11 hits in 14.1 innings.
Concordia began their trip with sweeps of Carlow University and Marywood University. The Clippers began their third day of play with a 3-1 win over Hannibal-LaGrange College before falling 8-1 in the second game. The Clippers battled Point Park University to a 3-2, 10-inning loss in game one on the final day and came back in the second game with a 7-1 victory.
The Clippers will return to action on Tuesday, March 20th, weather permitting, as they travel to face the Warriors of Nyack College. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 3:00 PM.
