Softball Splits Doubleheader With Molloy
Rockville Centre, NY - Sophomore Kelly Moran (Carmel, NY) pitched a complete game for Concordia, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs, as the Clippers rebounded in the second game to top Molloy College 8-2 yesterday at Lady Lion Field in Rockville, Centre, NY. Moran also struck out 5 batters and did not allow a walk in evening her record at 2-2 on the season.
Concordia opened up the scoring in game 2 in the 1st inning with a 2-out, 2-run home run to left field by sophomore Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY), her second of the season and team best 11th RBI.
The Clippers added a run in the 3rd inning on a double to center field by sophomore Sondra Noer (Sunnyside, NY), scoring freshman Liz Terezo (Mineola, NY) from second base. The Clippers broke the game wide open in the 4th inning. With 1 out and runners on first and second base, the Clippers got consecutive hits from Ashley Spose (North Haven, CT), Terezo and Mazza to drive home 3 runs and put Concordia ahead 6-0.
The Lions responded in the bottom half of the 4th inning, as Shannon Skeggs singled to right field with 2 outs, scoring Florence Williams from third base. But Moran struck out Tara Nowlin to end the inning with Concordia leading 6-1.
Sophomore Caitlin Orlando (Mineola, NY) blasted a 1-out single to center field in the 5th inning to score Moran from third base and Julie Walsh (Bellerose, NY) from second base, increasing the Clipper lead to 8-1.
In the 7th inning, Molloy would get a 2-out triple to left field by Michelle Walsh, sending home Skeggs from second base. The next batter, Erin Rut grounded out to the second baseman to end the game.
In game 1, Amanda Havdoglous pitched a 4 hit shutout for the Lions, allowing 1 walk and striking out 9 Clipper batters. Senior Julianna LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) surrendered 7 hits and struck out 3 batters in the loss. LaBella's record falls to 2-3 on the season.
Concordia ended a 5-game losing streak with the split and improve their record to 7-7 overall and 1-5 in the East Coast Conference. The Lions fall to 14-8 overall and 4-2 in the East Coast Conference.
Concordia will return to action Wednesday, April 11th, as they
host the Knights of Queens College. The first game of the
doubleheader will begin at 3:00 PM.
