Concordia Drops Two to Adelphi
Garden City, NY - The Concordia College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Adelphi University yesterday 3-1 and 9-1 at Ficke Field in Garden City, NY. With the losses, Concordia falls to 11-15 overall and 5-13 in the East Coast Conference. The Panthers improve to 23-8 overall and 11-2 in the East Coast Conference.
In game 1, Adelphi jumped on the board in the 1st inning as Diana DiPiano homered to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Adelphi would add a run in the 4th inning, as Katie Brophy tripled, scoring a runner from third base.
In the 5th inning, Kristin Brennan singled with 1 out and advanced to second on a single by DiPiano. The next batter up, Julie Schaper, would double, scoring Brennan to increase the lead to 3-0.
Concordia put runners on the corners in the 7th inning, as sophomore Kelly Moran (Carmel, NY) singled home what would be the final run of the game. Moran also pitched 6 innings for Concordia, surrendering 8 hits and 3 earned runs. Moran's record falls to 2-6 on the season.
In game 2, Sondra Noer (Sunnyside, NY) hit her first home run of the season in the 1st inning to put the Clippers up 1-0. The Panthers wold get three runs in the 2nd inning on a RBI single from Bailey Lawrence and a RBI double from Brophy.
Kristina LoCastro singled home a runner from 2nd base in the 3rd inning and DiPiano belted a solo home run in the 4th inning to increase the Panther lead to 5-1. Adelphi added two runs in both the 5th inning and 6th inning to end the game at 9-1. Senior Kristin Raffetto (Mineola, NY) picks up the loss for the Clippers, allowing 11 hits and 6 earned runs. Raffetto's record falls to 2-3 on the season.
Concordia will conclude their 2007 season on Monday, April 30th,
as they host the Chargers of the University of New Haven. It will
be a doubleheader with the Chargers and the action will begin at
3:00 PM.
