Softball Takes Two From Flyers
Dobbs Ferry, NY - Junior Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ) pitched a 2-hit shutout to help the Clippers sweep Mercy College 2-0 and 5-4 yesterday at Mercy Softball Field in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Both of the games went 9 innings yesterday.
In game 1, sophomore Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY) hit a 1-out single, followed by a double by Kelly Moran (Carmel, NY). Giralo stepped up to the plate and helped her cause with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Mazza from third base. Moran advanced to third and would score on an error on the play by the catcher to increase the score to 2-0. In the bottom half of the 9th inning, Giralo finished off the Flyers for a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.
Giralo surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks in the complete game shutout and struck out a season high 9 batters in improving her record to 3-2 on the season.
In game 2, Samantha LaBella singled home Jessica Davidson from second base to give Mercy a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning.
In the 5th inning, Moran and Liz Terezo (Mineola, NY) each singled home a run to put the Clippers ahead 2-1.
In the 7th inning, with Concordia down 4-3, senior Dana Imbrogno (Mahopac, NY) doubled home Terezo to tie the game at 4-4. Imbrogno would again double in the 9th inning, scoring Moran for the winning run. Imbrogno would finish the game with 3 hits and 2 RBI.
Julianna LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) pitched a complete game for the Clippers. The senior gave up 9 hits and 2 earned runs and struck out 7 batters. LaBella improved to 4-4 this season.
With the sweep of the Flyers, Concordia improves to 11-13 overall and 5-11 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy falls to 0-14 overall and in conference play.
Concordia will finish the week's play on Wednesday, April 25th
in Garden City, NY, as they take on the Panthers of Adelphi
University. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 3:00
PM.
