Clippers Open 2007 Season With 4 Straight Wins

Cocoa Beach, FL - The Concordia College softball team opened the 2007 season winning their first four contests in Cocoa Beach, FL. The Clippers swept a doubleheader against Carlow University on Monday, March 5th, topping the Celtics 2-1 and 9-1. The following day, Concordia bested the Pacers of Marywood University 4-3 and 5-0.

 

 

Carlow University

Sophomore Brianne Steffens (Port Jervis, NY) knocked in the game winning run in the 8th inning to give the Clippers a 2-1 victory. Senior Julianna LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) pitched 5 innings, scattering 6 hits and allowing 1 run, while striking out 7 batters. Junior Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ) pitched 3 innings in relief to pick up the win.

In the second game, sophomore Kelly Moran (Carmel, NY) pitched a complete game, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run in the 9-1 victory. Sophomore Sondra Noer (Sunnyside, NY) belted 2 triples and finished with 2 RBI and Alex Mazza (Bronx, NY) hit a double to drive in 3 runs.

Marywood University

In game one, senior Kristin Raffetto (Mineola, NY) pitched 5 innings for Concordia. LaBella tossed the final 3 innings in relief to pick up the win. Mazza batted 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

In the second game, sophomore Julie Walsh (Bellerose, NY) batted 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Giralo pitched 5 innings for Concordia, allowing only 4 hits. Moran closed the game out, allowing no hits to preserve the 5-0 win.

Concordia improves to 4-0 on the season and will look to stay undefeated as they resume action on Wednesday, March 7th against the Trojans of Hannibal LaGrange College. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 9:00 AM.
