Sparkill, NY - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans swept a doubleheader against the Clippers yesterday by the scores of 4-3 and 7-3 at Spartan Field in Sparkill, NY.  The Clippers drop to 6-6 overall and 0-4 in the East Coast Conference. St. Thomas Aquinas College improves to 6-12 overall and 4-2 in the East Coast Conference.

In game 1, Concordia erased a 1-run deficit in the 4th inning with a bases loaded single by Kelly Moran (Carmel, NY) that scored Ashley Spose (North Haven, CT) and Tara Giralo (Anthem, AZ). The Clippers would add another run in the 6th inning as Moran knocked in her third RBI of the game, scoring Janine Zezze (Bronxville, NY) from third base to give Concordia a 3-1 lead.

The Spartans would respond in the bottom half of the inning as Brianna Peterson and Shannon Donohue each belted solo home runs to tie the game at 3-3. Giralo then allowed a single by Danielle Romanello, who then advance to third after a couple of Spartan batters. With two outs, Danielle Hart singled home the winning run.

The Clippers would threaten in the 7th inning, as Spose drew a 2-out walk. Julianna LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) then singled, advancing Spose to second base. However, the final at-bat flied out to centerfield to end the game.

Giralo pitched 6 innings for Concordia , scattering 8 hits and allowing 4 runs. Giralo struck out 3 Spartan batters in picking up her first loss of the season (2-1).

In game 2, the Clippers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a 2-out single by sophomore Sondra Noer (Sunnyside, NY). St. Thomas Aquinas would answer in the botton half of the first with a 3-run home run by Amanda Brown.

Kristin Raffetto (Mineola, NY) would single home another run for Concordia in the 2nd inning, as the Clippers trailed 3-2 after 2 innings. But the Spartan bats proved too much as Karen Thorne and Jess Gogatz each hit 2-run home runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, respectively, to ice the game for St. Thomas Aquinas. Raffetto takes the loss for the Clippers, dropping her record to 1-1. The senior gave up 5 hits and 7 runs in 4 innings.

Concordia will be back on the field on Tuesday, April 3rd, as they travel to Rockville Centre, NY to face the Molloy College Lions in an East Coast Conference doubleheader. The action gets underway at 3:00 PM.
