Fort Myers, Fla. – Junior Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) continued his singles play at the 2013 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships on Saturday afternoon. Also junior Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) and senior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) played in the ITA's "Super Bowl" for doubles on the afternoon.
Ojanen faced Jacob Carey of Bluefield State to decide who would place 5th within the Division II singles bracket. After falling to the top seeded singles player, Juuso would advance to the fifth place event after claiming a 6-4, 6-3 win against Pedro Scocuglia of Armstrong Atlantic.In Ojanen's match against Carey he would secure a 6-3, 6-0 victory to be named the fifth place finisher in the bracket.
On the doubles side of competition Majauskas and Piludu won the DII title after a 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 victory over Kyle Rowe and Thomas Gely of Fresno Pacific yesterday. Today they would be matched up with Deni Zmak and Simon Felix of Embry-Riddle, an NAIA institution in the "Super Bowl" match.
The duo would once again play three sets to decide the winner but Embry-Riddle would edge out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory as the Clippers were unable to move into the "Super Bowl" finals.
