Florence, S.C. – The No. 10 Concordia men's tennis team took a break from their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule to battle the 27th-ranked Francis Marion Patriots on Friday afternoon. The Clippers would continue to prove they are a contender this season as they secured a 7-2 victory.
Concordia would take a 3-0 overall lead early in the match following doubles play. Senior Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and junior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) would kick the day off with an 8-2 win in the #1 match against the 16th-ranked duo of Alex Caspari and Gavin Davison. Senior's David Tisserand (Lyon, France) and Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) would follow shortly with an 8-2 victory as well over Marius Wahlier and Tim Ruepke in their #3 match. Sophomore's Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) and Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) concluded doubles play with an 8-6 win over Arnaud Holl and Eimon Heywood in the #2 match.
Francis Marion would get two wins in singles play as Boldarev fell to Caspari 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 in the #1 match and Olfans fell in his #3 match to Holl 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Piludu would take his #2 singles match 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 over Davison while Tisserand defeated Heywood 7-5, 6-0 in his #4 match to give the Clippers a 5-2 overall lead. With two matches remaining Majauskas took a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ruepke in the #5 match and then Lindell concluded with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Wahlier in the #6 match.
The Clippers (9-2, 2-0 CACC) will return to their CACC schedule on Tuesday to battle Philadelphia University. The match will be the first of three straight CACC matches in as many days. Concordia will begin their match against the Rams at 3:30pm in Philadelphia, Pa.
