#7 Concordia Concludes Regular Season with 6-3 Victory over #10 Francis Marion

Florence, SC – The seventh-ranked Concordia College Clippers men's tennis team concluded their three-day trip in South Carolina with a 6-3 victory over the tenth-ranked Francis Marion Patriots on Saturday evening. The Clippers captured two wins out of their three matches in Florence to finish the regular season with 15 victories.

In doubles competition, Concordia's Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) battled to a 9-7 victory in their #1 doubles match. Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and Geza Bazula (Budapest, Hungary) also won their #2 doubles match, 8-5, while David Tisserand (Lyon, France) and Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) dropped an 8-4 decision as the Clippers held a 2-1 overall lead.

Half of the singles matches went into third set tiebreakers as Francis Marion looked to put the pressure on Concordia. Piludu, the twentieth-ranked singles player, captured a 5-7, 6-1, 10-4 victory at #1 singles. Tisserand and Lindell fell in their tiebreaker matches 7-5, 1-6, 10-6 and 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 in their respective #3 and #5 matches.

The Clippers captured the three remaining singles wins for the overall victory. Bazula took a 6-4, 6-1 win at #2 singles while Olfans came out victorious in his #4 match 6-0, 7-5. Mark Mozer (Brest, Belarus) rounded out the match with a 7-5, 6-0 win at #6 singles for his team-leading 16th singles victory of the season.

Concordia (15-7, 6-0 CACC) have concluded their regular season matches and will now prepare for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament. The Clippers will serve as the host of the 2012 CACC Tournament which begins on Saturday, April 21st at the Meyers Tennis Center. The times and matchups will be released at a later date this upcoming week.
