Bronxville, NY – The #4 ranked Concordia College Clippers men's tennis team opened up their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Sunday afternoon at the Meyers Tennis Center. The Clippers took on the University of the Sciences Devils and went on to win 9-0 for their fourth victory of the season.
In doubles competition, the #1 team of Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and the #3 team of Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and Mark Mozer (Brest, Belarus) won 8-1 to begin the day. Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) and David Tisserand (Lyon, France) finished the doubles competition with an 8-4 victory as the Clippers held a 3-0 overall lead heading into singles play.
Concordia did not allow the Devils to win any games in three of the six singles matches. Piludu would win at #1 singles 6-0, 6-0 while Mozer, at #4 singles, and Olfans, at #5 singles, would win in straight sets as well 6-0, 6-0.
Tisserand only lost one game at #3 singles as he won his match 6-1, 6-0. Lindell won his first set 6-1 but had to work for his second set victory. He would eventually put away his opponent at #2 singles 6-4 as Concordia looked to sweep USciences.
Frey's opponent would make him earn the win in the first set at #6 singles as both players played a solid set. Frey would come away with the 6-4 first set win and had no problem closing out the match with a 6-0 second set victory as the Clippers won their first conference match 9-0.
Concordia (4-4, 1-0 CACC) will be back in action on Tuesday, March 20th as they host Bluefield St. The match is set to get underway at 3:30pm at the Meyers Tennis Center.
