Clippers go one, two, three during weekend play
The Clippers faced three opponents this weekend. Their first opponent was Amherst College. Doubles were up first and the pair of Alex Grubin and Andrey Boldarev were perfect as they did not let one game slip by them.
Felix Missal and Raphael Namias were pushed as they were on serve
through their entire match. As the games went on, finding a
break point became challenging. With the score tied at 8-8
Missal and Namias stepped up and grabbed the tie break to win the
match 9-8.
Tamas Dobrotka was paired up with Shaolin Chandam for the first time. With the match on serve, the pair started to slip and were broken and lost the match.
Alex Grubin, kicked off the singles matches as he broke his opponents serve three times in the first set to take it 6-0. The second set, Grubin was on serve through four all and took his chance to break and won the match with second set score of 6-4.
Andrey Boldarev was up next as he was able to break his opponent three times through out the match. With a couple of winners and aces Boldarev defeated his opponent 6-3; 6-4.
Felix Missal was up next at the number three spot. After getting a break and winning the frist set 6-4 Missal seemed to be in control. Missal and his opponent were on serve through five all in the second set and unfortunately Missal was broken and the match was forced to a thrid set tie breaker. Back and forth the points were traded in the third set tie breaker. With another unfortunate break Missal's opponent took the third to win the match.
Raphael Namias was in control in his first set of his match as he only surrendered one game to take the set 6-1. The second set was on serve for most of the match before Namias could break his opponent. With the 6-4 second set win by Namias the Clippers earned their fifth point of the match to grab the win.
Tamas Dobrotka doubled his scores as he was playing a steady
game. With a couple of break chances Dobrotka capitalized and
defeated his opponent 6-3; 6-3.
Shaolin Chandam rapped up the Clippers line-up against Amherst as he was pushed to stay on serve through most of the first set. A break allowed Chandam to grab the first set 6-4. An early break in the second set allowed Chandam to stay ahead and win the match with a second set score of 6-3.
The Clippers defeated Amherst College 7-2.
Sunday brought the Clippers two matches, the first was the last CACC regular season game as they faced off against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Devils, the second match pitted them against the Division I Bryant University Bulldogs.
The Clippers started with the doubles matches against the Devils. With each pair playing well the Clippers only surrendered two games through the three matches to go ahead 3-0. Boldarev and Grubin were perfect with an 8-0 score, Missal and Namias let up one game to win 8-1, and Dobrotka was back with his regular doubles partner Andreas Lindell, to win 8-1.
The singles matches were just as heavy handed toward the
Clippers. With Boldarev taking
the number one spot he ws able to take the first set with ease as
he surrendered just one game. Boldarev saw a little trouble
in the second set but was able to grab an early break to go ahead
and sailed into a 6-3 second set win.
Raphael Namias took over the number two singles spot for the match as he was perfect taking down his opponent 6-0; 6-0.
Felix Missal was cruising after letting up just one game to sail into a 6-1; 6-0 victory.
Tamas Dobrotka defeated the Devil across the court from him not allowing one game to be earned from the other side.
Shaolin Chandam mirrored Missal's performance only letting up one game to his opponent.
Dane Ostilly finished up the Clippers line-up against the
Devils. After getting down a break in the first set Ostilly
turned it around to win the match in straights 6-3; 6-1.
With the Clipperes sweeping the Devils 9-0, the Clippers have become the regular season CACC Champions.
The Bulldogs were the afternoon competition for the Clippers. Grubin and Boldarev took their normal spot at number one doubles and let up just one game through the eight game pro set match.
Felix Missal and Raphael Namias mirrored Grubin and Boldarev as they too surrendered just one game.
Andreas Lindell and Tamas Dobrotka hit a little trouble as they were on serve through three all. With a couple of breaks Lindell and Dobrotka finished the match out to put the Clippers ahead 3-0 with an 8-3 win.
Alex Grubin hit a couple of snags in the first set of his
match. As Grubin and his opponent
were on serve a break point was needed. Grubin got his chance
and took advantage to win the first set 6-4. Grabbing two
break chances in the second set allowed Grubin to pull ahead of his
opponent and grab the straight set win.
Andrey Boldarev cruised in the first set as he brooke his opponent twice for the 6-2 win. Boldarev then struggled as he himself was broken a couple of times in the second set to be forced to play a third and deciding set. Boldarev turned on his killer instincts and swept the third set with a 6-0 score for the match win.
Raphael Namias was also pushed to three after holding court in the first set with a 6-1 set win. Namias was on serve in the second and mad a few mistakes that cost him the set but was able to pull it together for the deciding set. With a 10-7 super tie-break win Namias grabbed the match.
Felix Missal found only little trouble in the first set as he surrendered just two games. With a second set sweep Missal was cruising to another straight set victory.
Tamas Dobrotka stayed cool and calm throughout his match to win six love, six love.
Dane Ostilly, finished out the Clippers day and as he defeated his opponent in the first set 6-2, Ostilly ran into trouble. Ostilly dropped the second set and was forced to play a third. With miss hits and other unforced errors Ostilly fell in the third set.
The Clippers overall defeated the Bulldogs 8-1.
The Clippers will host the number four seed in the CACC on Tuesday in one of the semifinal matches.
