Philadelphia, PA - Clippers Men's Tennis destroys the competition at the ITA Regional Tournament

The Concordia College men's tennis team traveled down to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to compete in the ITA Regional Tournament.  Six members competed in the singles tournament with three of them being seeded.

With the weekend long tournament underway, the Clippers started their dominating presence on the court.  Alex Grubin (1), Andrey Boldarev (3), Tamas Dobrotka (5), Rafael Namias, Andreas Lindell and Felix Misall moved onto the 2nd round easily, defeating their opponents in two quick sets.

Second round play saw the first match-up between two Clippers, Namias and Lindell.  With the match tight between the two it was obvious either mans match.  Rafael Namias took the match over Andreas Lindell 7-5; 6-4.  Grubin, Boldarev, Dobrotka, and Missal also would advance on a quicker two sets.

The third round (quarterfinals) saw the next Clipper match-up with Andrey Boldarev and Tamas Dobrotka.  Boldarev took the first break and won the first set 6-3, then quickly took the second set 6-1.  Alex Grubin dispatched his third round opponent 6-0; 6-0 while Rafael Namias was another decisive win of 6-2; 6-0.

The semi-finals saw the last of the Clipper match-ups with Alex Grubin and Andrey Boldarev.  Grubin took the first set 6-2 but unfortunately had to retire due to an injury giving his Clipper teammate the slot in the finals.  Rafael Namias would unfortunately drop his semifinal match.

With just one opponent left Andrey Boldarev would take the court.  Andrey took the first set with an early break 6-2 then dispatched his opponent in the second set 6-1 to take the ITA Regional Singles title.

The men's team also competed in the ITA Regional Doubles tournament during the weekend.

The first round found the teams of Dobrotka/Lindell and Namias/Misall not dropping a game and walked into the quarterfinals with 8-0 wins for both.  The team of Grubin and Boldarev got to rest a little as they received a bye for the round.

The quarters were next for all three teams.  The team of Grubin and Boldarev only let one game slip as they won 8-1.  Namias and Misall finished with an 8-2 victory while Dobrotka and Lindell defeated their opponents 8-3.

With the obvious semifinal match up between two Clipper doubles teams which one would move ahead was the question.  Namias and Misall became the lucky ones in the match up against Dobrotka and Lindell as they won 8-4.  Grubin and Boldarev moved easily into the finals with an 8-3 victory.

The all Clipper final was next on the court to play it out.  With Grubin and Boldarev on one side and their teammates of Namias and Misall on the other the match would be up for grabs.  Grubin and Boldarev took control right away and defeated their teammate opponents 6-2;6-2 to take the ITA Regional Doubles title.

Andrey Boldarev will travel to Alabama for the ITA National Tournament at the end of October for the singles tournament and will be joined by his doubles partner Alex Grubin for the doubles tournament.
