Mobile, AL - Boldarev and Grubin claim ITA National Title
Andrey Boldarev and Alex Grubin headed to the ITA National
Championship after winning on the first two days of
competition. With the pair playing well together they would
continue to be an unstoppable force. The pair took on the #2
seeded Francis Marion doubles team. With the first set
staying on serve the tie break would determine who would take the
lead. Boldarev and Grubin came out on top with winning the
tie break and first set 7-6. With the edge to the Clippers
the pair was able to break their opponent not once but twice in the
second set. Boldarev and Grubin defeated their opponent in
straight sets 7-6; 6-2 to claim the ITA National Doubles Division
II Title.
Boldarev and Grubin would next head to the Super Bowl of the ITA. The Super Bowl is where each of the champions from the four different divisions (NCAA II, NCAA III, JUCO, and NAIA) face off against one another bragging rights. Boldarev and Grubin were broken in their first set by their NAIA opponent and were down a set. The pair then came back with a second set victory. With the third and deciding set under way it was either teams match. Unfortunately the Clippers pair was broken and could break back in the match and were defeated.
On the singles side Andrey Boldarev also made it all the way to the
finals. Boldarev, seeded #2, faced off against the #1 seed
singles player from Valdosta. Boldarev worked hard but was
broken late and found himself down a set. He then struggled
in the second set as he was broken twice and fell. Boldarev
finished in 2nd place in the ITA National Singles
Tounament.
