Altamonte Springs, FL - The Concordia College men's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Quarterfinals with a dominating 5-0 win over the Huskies of Bloomsburg University today in the Round of 16 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL. The Clippers reached the Quarterfinal Round for the first time in the team's history.

Concordia received the first point in the match when sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) and freshman Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) won an 8-0 decision over Fernando Perez and Ryan Glubo at No. 1 doubles. Junior Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) and sophomore Richi Malobicky (Pulheim, Germany) defeated Seth Rybak and Alan Hummel at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-3. The Clippers would take a 3-0 lead after senior Karim Belhadj (London, England) and freshman Viktor Kim (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) beat Lee Wexler and Mark Schroeder 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Malobicky topped Schroeder 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to put the Clippers just one win away from the match. Minutes later, Belhadj sent Concordia into the Quarterfinal Round with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Glubo. The remaining singles matches were declared unfinished in the race to five points.

The win improves the Clippers to 20-3 on the season, while the Huskies end their season with a record of 12-8.

Concordia will face off against the Timberwolves of Northwood University (MI) in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Quarterfinal Round on Thursday, May 14th. The Timberwolves defeated the University of Western New Mexico in the Round of 16 by a 5-0 score. The match-up features two of the top 15 teams in the country in NCAA Division II Men's Tennis, as the Clippers are ranked 12th and the Timberwolves are ranked 11th, according to the latest ITA Men's Tennis national rankings. The action begins at 9:00 AM.
