Grubin and Boldarev Earn ECC Weekly Awards
Central Islip, NY - Sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) and freshman Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) have been selected as East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office yesterday.
Grubin, who re-claimed the No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II Men's Tennis, posted a 3-0 singles week. In three matches at No. 1 singles, Grubin lost a total of 3 games. Grubin defeated Patryk Polus of Queens College 6-0, 6-1 on Tuesday in Flushing, NY. The Clippers defeated the Knights 7-2. On Wednesday, the sophomore beat Sebastian Nieves of Adelphi University 6-1, 6-1 to help the Clippers to a 9-0 win. The Clippers finished the week with a 7-0 win against the Hawks of Division I Monmouth University on Thursday. Grubin won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Ben Evenden.
Boldarev also won 3 singles matches at the No. 2 position. The freshman topped Fabio Minami of Queens College 6-0, 6-0. Against the Panthers, Boldarev beat Tomasz Walczak 6-3, 6-1. On Thursday, Boldarev won a first set tie-breaker 7-4 before defeating Vik Gupta of Monmouth University in the second set 6-2.
In doubles play, the two paired up for three wins at No. 1 doubles. In the win over Queens College, Grubin and Boldarev defeated Polus and Danilo Hiraoka by a score of 8-1. Against the Panthers, the duo won a 8-2 match against Walczak and Alex Molotsky. The pair wrapped up play this past week with an 8-6 win over Evenden and Ian Terpilowski.
