Men's Tennis Stifles Golden Lions 5-0

Bronxville, NY - Coming off an undefeated East Coast Conference regular season, the Concordia College men's tennis team earned the top seed in the ECC Men's Tennis Championships, where they smothered the No. 4 seed Golden Lions of Dowling College 5-0 yesterday afternoon at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers have now won 15 consecutive matches and improve to 16-3. The Golden Lions fall to 3-9 overall.

Concordia opened with two doubles shut-outs, as sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) and freshman Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) took out Petr Grishchenko and Salulo Gonzales 8-0 at No. 1 doubles and senior Vito Galatioto (Yonkers, NY) and junior Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) also won an 8-0 decision at No. 3 doubles over Mike Sinclair and Kevin Dunn. The Clippers earned their third point of the match when senior Karim Belhadj (London, England) and freshman Viktor Kim (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) were victorious over Eduardo Riberiro and Pedro Munoz at No. 2 doubles.

With the Clippers only two points away from claiming the match in the race to five points, Galatioto put the Clippers ahead 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Kevin Lotito at No. 6 singles. Minutes later, sophomore Richi Malobicky (Pulheim, Germany) sent the Clippers to the finals with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Gonzales.

The Clippers will play for the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship on Wednesday, April 22nd at the Meyers Tennis Center. Concordia will face the Queens College Knights, who defeated the Panthers of Adelphi University in the other ECC Semi-Final. The Clippers defeated the Knights 7-2 back on March 31st in Flushing, NY. First serve of the Finals will be at 3:30 PM.
