Concordia Defeats Fordham 8-1

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's tennis team defeated the Rams of Fordham University by a score of 8-1 yesterday afternoon at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY. It was the 11th win in a row fro the Clippers, as they improve to 12-3 on the season. It was their second win over Fordham this season and 6th against an NCAA Division I opponent. The Rams fall to 5-9 on the year.

Concordia took all three doubles matches in dominant fashion. Sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) and freshman Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) defeated Dallas Harding and Eli Plangger 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Seniors Vito Galatioto (Yonkers, NY) and Karim Belhadj (London, England) teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Kevin Maloney and Brandon Abbatiello. Junior Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) and sophomore Richi Malobicky (Pulheim, Germany) made quick work of Peter Slucky and Sotoris Georgiou at No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 victory.

In singles action, Boldarev and Malobicky both won 6-0, 6-1 matches at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively. Galatioto beat Slucky 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and freshman Viktor Kim (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) took out Georgiou 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The lone win for the Rams came at No. 6 singles, where Plangger defeated freshman Joseph Giamboi (Brooklyn, NY) 6-0, 6-1.

The Clippers will travel to Bloomsburg, PA this weekend for the Bloomsburg University Duals. Concordia will take on the Bloomsburg University Huskies on Friday, April 17th at 2:00 PM. The following day, the Clippers will face West Virginia Wesleyan College at 8:00 AM and West Liberty State College at 1:30 PM.
