Ruenz Claims Player of the Week Accolades
Central Islip, NY - Junior Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) was named East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office.
Ruenz posted an undefeated single week in both singles and doubles competition, including matches against two NCAA Division I opponents, St. Francis College (NY) and St. John's University.
In singles play, Ruenz defeated James Brennan Tsung of St. Francis College (NY) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles on Tuesday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center. The next day, the junior blanked Carl Johnson of St. Thomas Aquinas College 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. On Friday, Ruenz played at No. 6 singles and was victorious over Stefan Nikolic of St. John's University by a score of 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles play, Ruenz paired up with sophomore Richi Malobicky (Pulheim, Germany) at No. 3 doubles for an 8-5 victory against Derek Wallensteen and Pavel Cerny of St. John's University. Against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, Ruenz and Malobicky were awarded a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles.
