Concordia Loses to Eagles 6-3

Daytona Beach, FL - The Concordia College men's tennis team dropped their 2nd straight match, a 6-3 decision to the Eagles of Embry-Riddle University yesterday in Daytona Beach, FL. It was the second match against a ranked opponent, as the Eagles are currently ranked #3 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Tennis poll. The Clippers fell 6-3 yesterday to #10 NCAA ranked Rollins College on Monday afternoon.

The Clippers were swept in three closely contested doubles matches. Sophomores Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) and Richi Malobicky (Pulheim, Germany) lost 8-6 at No. 1 doubles to Carlos Bes Comeras and Jan Hoekzema. At No. 3 doubles, Istvan Bolgar and Peter Francis defeated seniors Josep Molet (Sabadell, Spain) and Karim Belhadj (London, England) by an identical 8-6 score. The Eagles completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles as freshmen Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Viktor Kim (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) fell to Adrian Bayh and Charlie Rice by a score of 8-5.

The first singles match to conclude was No. 3 singles, where Bayh defeated Molet 6-3, 6-1. The Eagles would claim victory when Rice beat Belhadj 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Concordia picked-up wins at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles on the day.

The Clippers fall to 1-2 on the year, while Embry-Riddle improves to 5-1 overall.

Concordia will travel to Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday, March 4th to take on the defending NCAA DII Men's Tennis National Champion Armstrong Atlantic State University Pirates. The Pirates are currently ranked #1 in DII men's tennis. First serve is set for 2:00 PM.
