Men's Tennis Picks Up First ECC Win

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's tennis team earned their first East Coast Conference win of the season with an 8-1 win over the Golden Lions of Dowling College this past Saturday afternoon at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY.

The Clippers posted wins in all three doubles matches. Senior Karim Belhadj (London, England) and freshman Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) notched an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Petr Grishchenko and Salulo Gonzales. Senior Vito Galatioto (Yonkers, NY) and freshman Viktor Kim (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) also won by an 8-3 score over Mike Sinclair and Kevin Lotito at No. 3 doubles. In the second doubles position, senior Josep Molet Sabadell, Spain) and junior Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) dominated Eduardo Ribeiro and Pedro Munoz by an 8-1 score.

In singles play, Kim posted a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) at No. 3 singles. Second ranked Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) defeated Grishchenko 6-0, 6-1 an No. 1 singles and sophomore Richi Malobicky (Pulheim, Germany) beat Gonzales 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The Golden Lions picked up their only point of the match at No. 6 singles, where Kevin Dunn defeated freshman Joseph Giamboi (Brooklyn, NY) 6-2, 6-3.

The Clippers evened their record at 3-3 on the season and move to 1-0 in East Coast Conference action. Dowling remains winless at 0-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Concordia will travel to Teaneck, NJ on Saturday, March 28th to face the Knights of Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University. The match will begin at 1:00 PM.
