Grubin Selected Player of the Week

Central Islip, NY - Sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) was named the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office today.

The Clippers competed against three nationally ranked teams down in Florida this past week. Grubin, who is the No. 2 ranked player in NCAA DII Men's Tennis, went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-1 at No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, Grubin defeated Adrian Tan of No. 10 ranked Rollins College 6-3, 6-2 on Monday. On Tuesday, Grubin beat Carlos Bes Comeras of No. 3 NAIA ranked Embry-Riddle University 6-2, 6-1. The following day, it was a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown, as the top two Division II men's tennis players in the nation squared off. In the end, Grubin took Edualdo Bonet of the defending NCAA Men's Tennis Champion, Armstrong Atlantic State University in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. On Thursday, the sophomore topped David Cotrone of Flagler College 6-1, 6-0 for an undefeated singles week.

In doubles competition, Grubin teamed with sophomore Richi Malobicky (Pulheim, Germany) to finish 3-1 for the week. Their only loss was an 8-6 decision to Carlos Bes Comeras and Jan Hoekzema of Embry-Riddle University.

The Clippers are 2-3 on the season and are currently the No. 15 ranked team in NCAA DII Men's Tennis.
