Men's Tennis Dominates ECC Singles & Doubles Tournament
Flushing, NY - The Concordia College men's tennis team competed in the 2009 East Coast Conference Singles & Doubles Tournament this past weekend at Queens College in Flushing, NY and captured the championship in 7 of the 9 flights in the annual event.
The Clippers captured the top two flights in doubles play, with sophomores Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) and Richi Malobicki (Pulheim, Germany) winning the top flight and senior Karim Belhadj (London, England) and Vikor Kim (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) taking No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Grubin and Malobicky were victorious at No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles, respectively. Senior Josep Molet (Sabadell, Spain) won in straight sets at No. 4 singles, while Kim took home the trophy at No. 5 singles. At No. 6 singles, Belhadj rallied from down a set to win and give Concordia their 7th flight title of the tournament.
The Clippers will travel to Winter Park, FL on Monday, March 2nd to take on the Tars of Rollins College in a top 10 showdown. The Tars are currently ranked 10th in the nation in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings released October 30, 2008. The Clippers are currently ranked 8th in the nation. The match will begin at 2:30 PM.
