Grubin Named NCAA All-American

Bronxville, NY - Concordia College men's tennis player Alex Grubin has been named an NCAA Div II All-American, as announced by the International Tennis Association.

Ranked number one in the nation in singles, Grubin is from Belgrade, Serbia and posted a 32-3 record this past season for the Concordia Clippers tennis team. Approximately 1500 student-athletes from 168 schools play men's tennis in NCAA Division II, making Grubin's number one ranking even more impressive. First ranked number one in singles back in October, 2007, after winning the ITA Small College National Singles and Doubles Tournament in Mobile Alabama, Grubin maintained the top ranking in the nation in NCAA Div. II for the entire year.

 

Highlights of his career at Concordia were being named the ITA East Region Player to Watch in 2007, East Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2008, Singles winner in the Cornell Invitational and winner of the Singles and Doubles at the ITA East Region Small College S&D Tournament. He and his partner Rodrigo Teixeira are ranked #24 in the Nation in Doubles. He was also selected to the ITA 2008 All Star Team. He will be honored at a luncheon at the National Tennis Center on Arthur Ashe Kids Day. Grubin led the outstanding Concordia College men's tennis team to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament after the team won the East Coast Conference Championship and getting the automatic bid into the NCAA National Championships.

The Clippers advance to the Round of 16 buy winning the East Regional held at Stonehill College.The Clippers finished the season ranked # 1 in the East in Division II and # 11 in the National rankings. The team has qualified for the NCAA Tournament for an impressive ten years in a row. The program is led by 2008 East Coast Conference and ITA East Region Coach of the Year Neil Tarangioli.
