Golden Lions Fall to Clippers 9-0
Oakdale, NY - Senior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) stepped in at #1 singles and earned a 6-2, 6-1 win to improve to 14-1 in singles play to help lift the Clippers past the Golden Lions of Dowling College 9-0 yesterday in Oakdale, NY.
The Clippers cruised through the double portion of the match, with sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) and Nik Boerger (Muenster, Germany) posting an 8-4 win at #1 doubles and seniors Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Vito Galatioto (Yonkers, NY) winning by a score of 8-2 at #2 doubles. The Golden Lions defaulted #3 doubles and #6 singles by only bringing 5 players to the match.
In singles play, Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) and Galatioto posted straight set 6-0, 6-0 wins at #4 and #5 singles, respectively. Sophomore Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) was also impressive with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #3 singles.
The 12th ranked Clippers improve to 11-2 overall and stay undefeated in the East Coast Conference at 4-0.
The Clippers will travel to Bloomsburg, PA this weekend to
participate in the Bloomsburg Duals.
