Clippers Cruise By Amherst 8-1

Amherst, MA - The Concordia College men's tennis team soundly defeated the Lord Jeffs of Amherts College 8-1 today in Amherst, MA. The 12th ranked Clippers improve to 9-2 overall. The Lord Jeffs fall to 7-5 on the season.

 

 

The Clippers started strong by sweeping all three doubles flights. The closest match came at #3 doubles where senior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) and sophomore Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) defeated Michael Mintz and Tal Avrahami in a hard fought 8-6 battle.

In singles play, top ranked Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) defeated Zach Lerner, who is ranked #11 in Division III men's tennis, 6-3, 6-4 at #1 singles. Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) defeated Avrahami 6-3, 6-2 at #6 singles and Teixeira topped Mintz 6-4, 6-3 at #2 singles. The lone loss for the Clippers came at #3 singles, where sophomore Nik Boerger (Muenster, Germany) was beaten by Jeffrey Wan 6-4, 7-6 at #3 singles.

Concordia will get back into action on Tuesday, April 8th, as they travel to Queens, NY to face the Red Storm of Division I St. John's University. First serve is set for 2:00 PM.
