Men's Tennis Tames Bearcats 4-3

Binghamton, NY - Senior Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) came back from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to defeat Gregoire Berner at #5 singles to give Concordia a 4-3 victory over the Division I Bearcats of Binghamton University yesterday in Binghamton, NY. The 12 ranked Clippers won their 10th straight match and improve to 14-2 on the season.

 

 

The Bearcats took the doubles point by winning two out of three doubles matches. The duo of Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) and Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) beat Andreas Danielsson and Evan Algier at #3 doubles 8-2.

Down 1-0 after doubles play, the Clippers stormed back to take a 3-1 lead by winning singles matches at #1, #6 and #3. Sophomore Nik Boerger (Muenster, Germany) lost in three sets at #2 singles to Sven Vloedgraven 6-2, 2-6, 1-6.

The Bearcats tied the match at 3-3 when Arnav Jain defeated Ruenz 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 at #4 singles. All looked lost for Concordia, as Malkin was trailing 4-1 in the third set but rallied to win 7-5 in the third set and give the Clippers the 4-3 win.

Concordia will host the 2008 East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22-23, 2008. The Clippers claim the top seed and will host the 4th seeded Panthers of Adelphi University at 2:00 PM at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY. The other semi-final match pits the 2nd seeded Queens College Knights against the 3rd seeded Mavericks of Mercy College. The two winners will face-off on Wednesday at the Meyers Tennis Center at 2:00 PM.
