Ruenz Named ECC Player of the Week

Central Islip, NY - Sophomore Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office yesterday.

Ruenz helped the Clippers to a 2-0 week by going undefeated in both singles and doubles play. In singles, Ruenz defeated Martin Kosut of Division I St. John's University 6-2, 6-1 at #4 singles. The following day, he beat Salulo Gonzales 6-1,6-0 of ECC foe Dowling College at #3 singles. Ruenz is currently 12-3 in singles competition this season.

In doubles play, Ruenz teamed with senior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) at #3 doubles to defeat Artem Vlasenko and Gustavo Loza of St. John's 8-6. Against the Golden Lions, Ruenz and Teixeira were awarded a default victory, as Dowling only showed up with five players. Ruenz has a 12-1 record in doubles matches so far this season.

Ruenz is currently ranked 15th in the East Region, according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released on March 31, 2008.

The Clippers are ranked 12th in the nation in Division II Men's Tennis and have an 11-2 overall record and a perfect 4-0 East Coast Conference record.

The Clippers will be back on the courts on Tuesday, April 15th, as they travel to Sparkill, NY to take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College. The matches will begin at 3:30 PM.
