Teixeira Claims ECC Player of the Week Honors
Central Islip, NY - Senior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) was named East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office yesterday.
Teixeira helped the 12th ranked Clippers to a 2-0 week last week, as Concordia defeated Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University 7-2 and opened ECC competition by beating Queens College 8-1.
Against the Knights of FDU, Teixeira stepped in at #2 singles and defeated Matt Gordon 7-5, 6-4. Teixeira and teammate Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia), who are ranked 4th in the country in doubles play, topped Gordon and Phillip Stephens 8-4 at #1 doubles.
The Clippers opened ECC action against rival Queens College. Teixeira and Grubin easily defeated Dave Alper and Taylor Crabill at #1 double 8-0. Teixeira also beat Dave Burstein at #2 singles 6-0, 6-2.
Teixeira is now 9-1 in singles competition on the season, with his only loss coming at #4 singles against Paul Bishop of Armstrong Atlantic State University, who is now the #1 ranked men's tennis team in Division II. Teixeira is also 9-3 in double play thus far with Grubin.
The Clippers will be back in action and will be looking for
their third straight win as they take on the Panthers of Adelphi
University at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY. First
serve is set for 1:00 PM.
