Clippers Sail Past Queens 8-1
Bronxville, NY - The duo of senior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) and sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) led the Clippers in a convincing 8-1 victory over the Knights of Queens College yesterday at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY.
The Clippers swept all three doubles flights, led by Teixeira and Grubin, who defeated Dave Alper and Taylor Crabill 8-0 at #1 doubles.
In singles competition, senior Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) wasted little time in defeating Crabill 6-0, 6-2 at #4 singles. Senior Vito Galatioto (Yonkers, NY) came back after dropping the first set to Ariel Nassim to take the match 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6). Junior Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) dominated Robby Scheuing 6-1, 6-0 at #5 singles. The Knights only win came at #3 singles, where sophomore Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) lost to Fabio Minami 6-4, 6-4.
The Clippers move to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the East Coast Conference. The Knights fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will travel to Garden City, NY on Saturday, March
29th to face the Panthers of Adelphi University in ECC action. The
matches will begin at 1:00 PM.
