Clippers Slay Knights 7-2

Bronxville, NY - Senior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) won matches in both singles and doubles play to help lead the Clippers past the Knights of Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University 7-2 yesterday at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY. Teixeira partnered with sophomore Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) at #1 doubles to win 8-4 over Philip Stephens and Matt Gordon. Teixeira stopped Gordon at #2 singles 7-5, 6-4. Grubin, who is the #1 ranked singles player in Division II men's tennis, topped Stephens 6-4, 6-4 at the first position to move to 7-1 on the season in singles play.

 

 

The Clippers also claimed victory at #2 doubles with Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) defeating Esteban Blanco and Priit Gross by the score of 8-3. Justin Seow and Kyle Eddins defeated the pair of Vito Galatioto (Yonkers, NY) and Henning Ruenz (Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany) 8-6 at #3 doubles.

Leading 2-1 after doubles play, the Clippers claimed victory in 5 of the 6 singles flights. Ruenz cruised by Gross at #3 singles 6-2, 6-2, while Azovtsev improved to 7-1 in singles competition with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Eddins in the fourth position. Galatioto lost to Keiichiro Adachi at #6 singles 6-2, 7-6 (5) and Malkin stopped Seow 6-1, 6-3 at #5 singles.

The win gives the Clippers, who are ranked 12th in Division II, a 5-2 overall record. The Knights fall to 5-5 overall.

Concordia will return to the Meyers Tennis Center on Saturday, March 22nd, as they open East Coast Conference action against the Knights of Queens College. The action gets underway at 11:00 AM.
