Clippers Earn Top Seed in East Region of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament

Bronxville, NY - The NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship Tournament bracket has been announced and the Clippers will face the Stonehill College Skyhawks of the Northeast 10 Conference in the opening round on Thursday, May 3rd at 2:00 PM. Concordia earned the top seed in the East Region and will face Stonehill College, who is the eighth seeded team. The other East Regional First Round match-up will pit the fourth seeded Greyhounds of Assumption College against the fifth seeded Dowling College Golden Lions at 11:00 AM. The two winners will battle on Friday, May 4th at 11:00 AM for a chance to advance to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships. The Round of 16 will be played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida from May 9-12, 2007.
The Clippers are no stranger to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships, having been there the last two seasons. The Clippers lost to Midwestern State University in last season's tournament and to the Tritons of UC San Diego two season's ago.
The Clippers (16-2) are riding an 11-match winning streak heading into the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships and are ranked 16th in the nation, the highest NCAA ranking in school history. Freshman Alex Grubin (Serbia) is ranked 50th in the nation in Division II and 3rd in the East Region. Grubin is 9-1 in singles competition and 11-2 in doubles play and was voted East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Joining Grubin on the ECC First Team All-Conference are Josep Molet (Sabadell, Spain) and Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil). Molet is ranked 4th in the East Region and sports a 10-3 singles mark and an 8-0 doubles record this season. Teixeira is ranked 6th in the East Region and has an impressive 10-3 singles record and a 17-2 doubles mark this season. Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) are the 5th ranked doubles team in the East Region in Division II, right behind Teixeira and Grubin at 4th. Azovtsev garnered ECC Second Team All-Conference this season, along with freshman Nik Boerger (Muenster, Germany).
Concordia and Stonehill will square off for the second time this season. These two teams met back on Friday, April 6th at the Meyers Tennis Center. The Clippers handed the Skyhawks a 9-0 loss.
