Concordia Captures ECC Men's Tennis Championship
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's tennis team took home another East Coast Conference men's tennis championship title this past weekend with a 5-0 sweep of Mercy College at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY. Concordia, who also won the East Coast Conference regular season title, will receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament will be played from May 3rd to May 5th at a site to be determined.
The Clippers swept all three doubles flights against the Flyers. Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) and Alex Grubin (Serbia) defeated Vycheslav Glebov and Carlos Ferreira at #1 doubles by the score of 8-5. At #2 doubles, Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) and Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) downed Yusufcan Koksal and Timon Prosper 8-6 and John Cassas (Bogota, Colombia) and Nik Boerger (Muenster, Germany) made short work of Alican Seren and Zeki Tukel by an 8-3 score.
Concordia picked up the two more points needed to win the match, as Grubin won at #1 singles over Koksal, 6-2, 6-2 and Teixeira won at #3 singles over Seren, 6-2, 6-2. The rest of the singles matches were not completed.
Concordia improves their record to 15-2 overall. Mercy College falls to 9-3 overall.
Concordia will resume play on Wednesday, April 25th, as they
host the Division I Rams of Fordham University. The match will be
played at the Meyers Tennis Center and will begin at 3:00 PM.
